changing lanes
Apr 09th, 2009, 7:26pm

hi,
i am traveling on roads with multiple lanes and i need to change lane. if the other lanes are busy but i need to get across can i put my right signal on to show my intention and hope someone slows to create a gap if there is no available gap. My worry would be if you wait for there to be a clear gap before signaling you could miss your turning or lane.
i know the rules of not getting another road user to s.s.s.s. but in this situation are the rules different?

I would certainly put my signal on to "ask permission" dannyboy, so I would also teach my learners to do the same Smiley

I think thats spot on Jon, i have always been taught that a signal is exactly that, a signal of intention, so in this case it would be wise to  let other road users know of your intention.
